Wendy B. London, PhD

Dr. London is Professor of Pediatrics, Harvard Medical School, and since 2012 has served as the Faculty Director of the Survey and Qualitative Methods Core, Harvard Cancer Consortium. She is also the Director of Biostatistics in the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Boston Children’s Hospital. Dr. London brings leadership, faculty perspective, and experience in clinical research to the SQMC. She has more than 25 years of experience in design, conduct, analysis, and reporting of clinical trials and biological studies in pediatric cancer. Dr. London’s research focuses on identifying prognostic biomarkers in neuroblastoma to create risk stratification for treatment intensity. She serves on the Children’s Oncology Group (COG) Neuroblastoma Steering Committee and was Lead Statistician for the COG Neuroblastoma Steering Committee (1998-2014). Dr. London was awarded her PhD in Biostatistics from Virginia Commonwealth University, Medical College of Virginia in 1997.

Dr. London chairs the Statistics Committee of the International Neuroblastoma Risk Groups (INRG) task force, where she collaborated to develop a global system for pre-treatment risk stratification and the INRG Data Commons. She is a member of the Cellular, Tissue, and Gene Therapies Advisory Committee of the FDA (2023-27) and NIH/NCI Therapeutic Immune Regulation (TIR) Study Section (2022-26). She served on NIH/NCI Clinical Oncology Study Section (2006-10) and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) program committee (2014-16). She is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute (2020-present) and was on the Journal of Clinical Oncology editorial board (2013-2020). She has been a faculty member of AACR/ASCO Methods in Clinical Cancer Research Workshop since 2011, currently a workshop co-chair (2024-26).

Carol Lowenstein, MBA, Director

Ms. Lowenstein joined the Survey and Qualitative Methods Core (SQMC) in 2009 after serving for 10 years as Assistant Director of the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center Rapid Case Identification Core, Department of Epidemiology, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Prior to that, she served for six years as Assistant Director for Registry Operations at the Massachusetts Cancer Registry within the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Ms. Lowenstein is responsible for the administrative oversight of Core activities and serves as the primary liaison between the SQMC, researchers, Dana-Farber and Harvard Cancer Consortium leadership.

Anna Revette, PhD, Lead Scientist

Dr. Revette is a PhD-trained sociologist whose methodological expertise anchors patient-centered research across health and medicine. As Lead Qualitative Research Scientist in the Survey and Qualitative Methods Core at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, she designs and leads rigorous qualitative and mixed-methods studies, as well as conducts individualized trainings for research teams interested in qualitative methodologies. Her work spans the care continuum, but she brings extensive expertise to the study of pediatrics, adolescents and young adults, and geriatric populations. Dr. Revette specializes in in-depth interviews, focus groups, and ethnographic approaches, and she is highly experienced in traditional and novel approaches to qualitative analysis. She is an experienced educator who has taught courses at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Suffolk University, and Northeastern University in sociology, anthropology, international business, and social and behavioral science.

Gwen Petro, PhD, Survey Methodologist, Research Scientist

Dr. Petro brings nearly a decade of experience in creating and validating self-reported survey instruments. Her expertise encompasses item development and analysis, sampling, longitudinal research, and mixed-methods research. She is well-versed in advanced quantitative and psychometric methods, including classical test theory, item response theory, structural equation modelling, and mixture modelling. Before joining the Survey and Qualitative Methods Core, Gwen completed her PhD in communication at UC Santa Barbara where she conducted research identifying ways to empower people to use digital technology to enhance their health and wellbeing. She has taught courses at UC Santa Barbara and Providence College. Prior to graduate school, she worked in market research for a health information website.

Brett Nava-Coulter, MA, Qualitative Research Manager

Mr. Nava-Coulter is a sociologist with extensive experience in qualitative methods. His work has spanned from health to gender and sexuality to interface design and improvement. He has experience in cognitive interviewing, focus groups, interviews, analysis, and manuscript writing. He has worked with teams at all levels of research—spanning project design, implementation, and on through publication. He also conducts trainings for researchers at all career and project stages. Mr. Nava-Coulter earned his B.A. in sociology from U.C. Berkeley and a master’s in sociology from Northeastern University. Prior to joining the Core, he taught in the sociology department at Tufts University for 15 years. 

Jane Roberts, PhD, Qualitative Research Manager

Dr. Roberts is a PhD trained qualitative social scientist with a background in Medical Anthropology (MSc University College London) and Socio-Cultural Psychology (PhD London School of Economics). Dr. Roberts maintains expertise in qualitative research design and analysis, focus group moderation, in-depth interviewing, cognitive interviewing, and course/workshop facilitation. Her work has spanned a range of projects focused on understanding social, cultural and ethical dimensions of diagnosis; treatment and accessibility of healthcare; patient quality and safety; and issues concerning the mental health of children and young people. In addition to her work with the Core, Dr. Roberts is a co-instructor for courses at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Harvard Medical School on qualitative methods for public health and medical education, and qualitative methods faculty for the American Society of Hematology Medical Education Institute.

Michelle Fredericks, MPH, Data Analyst

Ms. Fredericks joined the Survey and Qualitative Methods Core in May 2022 as a Data Analyst. She received her Master of Public Health from Boston University School of Public Health and her B.S. in Health Policy and Management from Providence College. Ms. Fredericks has experience using the statistical software R for data management, cleaning, analysis, and visualizations. She is also proficient in coding in SAS. Ms. Fredericks has worked with a variety of dataset sizes and data types, such as EMR data, survey data, and publicly available community level data.

Majolie Kabemba, MBA, Program Administrator

Majolie Kabemba is the Program Administrator for the Survey and Qualitative Methods Core. She has worked at Dana-Farber since 2022. In her current role, she oversees a wide range of administrative responsibilities that support the Core’s operations and research initiatives. Prior to joining the Core, Majolie worked on the clinical side of healthcare before transitioning into research, bringing a well-rounded perspective to her administrative leadership. Majolie earned her master’s degree in healthcare administration from MCPHS University, where she developed a strong foundation in health systems management and organizational leadership.
